Join Tom Raffa (B’76, P'10), CEO of Raffa P.C., and Lauralyn Lee, Associate Vice President for Community Engagement and Strategic Initiatives at Georgetown University, for a discussion on innovative methods for bringing community engagement to the mainstream of your workplace. 

Interviewed by Lauralyn, Tom will discuss his career-long effort to identify innovative ways for businesses to use civic engagement as a mechanism for positive social impact, while also enhancing organizational performance and outcomes.  Tom’s own highly successful business and civic initiatives provides replicable models that offer ways for today’s business leaders – at any level of their organization – to engage with their communities in new and meaningful ways.

In turn, Lauralyn will share some of Georgetown University’s recent initiatives to increase the University’s impact in the local community and to educate students in the value of social engagement.

Tom Raffa is President and CEO of Raffa, PC, which he founded in 1984 specifically to service the nonprofit community.  During his more than 35-year career, Tom has provided accounting, auditing, tax services and business consulting to the nonprofit sector, conducting studies on management structure, internal and operational controls, and management information systems.

In June 2009, Tom was named Business CEO of the Year for Social Value Leadership by Greater DC Cares and one of the Top 50 CEOs in DC by CEO magazine.  In 2008, he was voted CPA of the Year by his professional peers and was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alliance for Nonprofit Management.  His professional and volunteer support of nonprofits has garnered him several other recent awards, including the Volunteer Achievement Award from the Accountants for the Public Interest and SmartCPA two years running from SmartCEO Magazine.
